OpenOffice - An Open Source and international open standards compliant comprehensive office suite that can open Microsoft Office files and even save work in Microsoft formats as well as create pdf's. It is supported by Sun and is pretty much the same as their Star Office but you have to pay a small amount for Star Office as it includes support. Includes: Writer - Word processor that is similar Microsoft Word. Calc - Spreadsheet that is similar Microsoft Excel. Impress - Presentation program that is similar Microsoft PowerPoint. Base - Data base program that is similar Microsoft Acces. Draw - A vector grahics program for plans, diagrams and graphics that is similar to Microsoft Visio and Publisher.

Symphony by IBM Lotus - This software is free to use and is based on OpenOffice but without all the applications. It also has a prettier interface than OpenOffice and looks much more like MS Office 2007. Includes: Documents - Word processor that is similar Microsoft Word. Spreadsheet - Spreadsheet that is similar Microsoft Excel. Presentations - Presentation program that is similar Microsoft PowerPoint. |
